Mark is a retired US Army Infantry Master Sergeant and has served in a variety of positions to include Infantry Company Senior Enlisted Leader, Assistant Professor at the Portland State University Military Science Program, Embedded Combat Advisor to the Afghan National Army, Recruit Sustainment Program First Sergeant and a Recruiting and Retention Command Detachment Chief.
Mark was awarded the Commendation Medal for Valor in Afghanistan for carrying a wounded Afghan soldier through heavy enemy fire then returning to fight and destroy the enemy. He was also awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his leadership and courage under fire during numerous enemy attacks.

Mark has been a volunteer youth and high school coach for various teams and programs in the Portland Metro area for the past 17 years. He attributes much of his success in life to the lessons he learned from sports and his coaches and feels passionately about giving back to young athletes today.
