Getting Prepared for Your Concrete Floor Coating Install

Although we have a process for prepping the concrete inside or out of your home that we are going to resurface, there are a couple things that we need you to take care of before our arrival as preparation. Taking care of these few tasks helps to ensure that we can get started on the install as soon as we arrive so we can complete the installation on time.

1. The area should not have anything on the floor.

   1. Garage Flake Systems – Outdoor refrigerators/freezers, furniture, toolboxes or carts, shelving, containers, etc. need to be removed from the garage prior to the day of arrival. (By policy, we cannot move homeowner items)

   2. Interior or Basement Resurfacing – All baseboards should be removed for access to work as close to the wall as possible. Doors should be removed from the hinges to allow easy access for our machines to move from room to room smoothly.

   3. Exterior Resurfacing – Outdoor furniture, potted plants, hoses, etc., and exterior décor needs to be removed from the area to be resurfaced.

2. Make sure the driveway or access to the area to be resurfaced is free and clear for our installers to bring our machines, equipment, and materials in. Driveway space will be needed for the duration of the install for Garage Flake Systems.

3. For Garage Flake Systems – Anything hanging on the wall or on a shelf 2-3ft or above the floor can remain.

4. Any type of large debris needs to be swept out of prior to our arrival. This also applies to any Interior/Exterior resurfacing areas as well. For example, leaves, wrappers, empty bottles, buildup of dirt/wood shavings/debris, etc.

Some extra items to consider

1. Once everything is removed, if there are any areas that need repair and could not be seen or was not discussed at the time of the consultation, please make sure to mention the area to the installers upon arrival.

2. It is EXTREMELY important to keep the floor dry for as long as possible prior to the install if mentioned to do so. To help with this, you can: park vehicles outside, use dehumidifiers, keep any items from covering the floor (items from other trades, boxes, floor mats, ram board, tarps), towel dry any water as soon as it is noticed, etc.

3. Make sure that if the install is being done during construction of the home, that no other trades will be needing access to the area for the amount of time spoken of for drying and curing purposes.

4. Our machines are attached to industrial vacuum cleaners that collect and contain the dust/debris from the diamond grinding of the concrete. If you have a concern for residual airborne dust getting into certain areas for the interior of your home or garage, we recommend the use of plastic sheeting that can be purchased at any home improvement store.

   1. If you do decide to use plastic sheeting for the install, please make that it is applied the day before the installation so that upon arrival of the installers, they can start the process of the install without delay.

5. We will be using materials that do have an odor to them. Although they are not toxic and are low VOC, we have some customers that react differently to them. We do take precaution in trying to minimize the odor by sealing off the areas to be resurfaced when we can and leaving windows open for airflow. We do suggest opening windows, staying in a room that is furthest from the area of installation, and/or leaving the residence if necessary. The odors are only strong during the actual application of the resins and do start to dissipate right after they are applied.
